I was born in Mumbai, India and moved to the U.S. with my family when I was young. I then spent several years in and around New York City – first in Kew Gardens but mostly in Long Island in a town named Hicksville. I attended Hicksville High School and then Columbia University where I studied Physics and Math and played a little rugby.
After college I spent some time working at a startup company named Saralux Consulting before beginning my Ph.D.
In my free time I like museums, music shows, hiking, boxing (when I have the brain cells to spare), and plenty of other sports. I have enjoyed volunteering in the past at the Butterfly Pavilion at the National Museum of Natural History and at animal shelters. Sometimes I play music – but not necessarily well.
